Title Research: Bronx Tale
-The title displayed is "A Bronx Tale" and in the opening scene we see these words displayed in a fun old times classical font that is colored white and green. The background of this title scene is a street/alley where we see people hanging out and dancing. There is also a classic looking car that car be seen parked on the road.
-The images prioritized in the opening scene are the streets and city mainly showcasing where the movie is taking place. We see a pan shot of the city lights and buildings indicating they are in a big city. We also can hear the narrator speaking, and we can assume that he is the main character. We see many transitions showcasing the different parts of the city including the streets with cars along with pizza shops and people hanging out around shops.
-These images connote that they live in a typical city but there is much more going on, the mafia. We see different parts of the dim cobblestone streets and shops and the narrator zooms into a group of guys then goes on ton say that we will discuss that later. Alluding to the fact that they have a bad reputation. These shots are inferring to the watchers that there is a gangster type of situation at hand and something shady is up.
-From the onset the film establishes the mafia feel, because the lighting is dark, the tone of the narrator is deep and calm, the panoramas of the city allow us to see the entire setting and indicate there this is movie is based on crime. When the narrator describes his life he is telling the audience about what goes on and the battle that his father faces. This film establishes an Italian ism the Bronx sort of feel from the very start allowing the audience to have an insight into the lives.
-Many strategies are used to ensure that the film appeals to the audience such as the Bronx and Italian accents. Both of these accents appeal to either group and entice audiences to watch. Other strategies such as city and crime feel are used to show the audience that this movie will be based on a crime boss ensuring that it appeals to the target audience of those interested in crime movies.
-This film was filmed many years ago so the technology is not as advanced as it would be nowadays. However there are still a variety of shots and angles used to straighten the film, these shots include panoramas, high angles and low angles, swell as close up shots. Filming techniques as such can be used to show settings in order for the audience to have a clear understanding of where the scenes are taking place. High and low angles can also be used to show dominance vs submissive which is a technique commonly used in crime/drama films. Overall we will use these methods found in other movies to our advantage by using similar ones in our film.
