Editing Blog: Editing The Music Video
Today Allison and I edited together the music video! This was the final step to our music video process and marked an end to all of the work we had done. We used the app Imovie to put all of the scenes together, we did this in class and used Allison’s phone. We had previously recorded all of the clips on Allison’s phone so this was the most convenient option. I began adding the scenes to the app to have an outline of our video. Allison helped me crop the clips so that they would line up with the music perfectly. It was challenging making all the clips match up with the music perfectly and I did have some frustrations along the way. For some scenes I had trouble matching the lip syncing, but after a few tries I was able to make it look flawless! Creating a split screen for the phone call scene seemed impossible, but with some research and the help of my group mates I was able to create a split screen! Allison gave me many suggestions while editing and I greatly appreciated her help throughout the process. After adjusting the clips Allison suggested that we edit the brightness in order to make it more vivid, this was a good call on her part and definitely created a better atmosphere. I suggested altering the saturation as well in order to achieve a sunny effect. These edits allowed us to create a sunnier more natural look through your video which coincides with our country theme. I also made sure to increase the clarity and structure in order make the video look more crisp! At this point we believed we were almost done editing until we realized that our music video was almost 2 minutes long! This was a major issue because it specifically had to be around 1 minute and 15 seconds. Allison and I had to make some changes, we took some ideas from Darrow and Ella and after some editing we were able to trim down all of our scenes. We ended up with a good duration and we were all very pleased with what he had made. Overall this was a great learning experience and I am very happy to have been able to complete it with my group mates. If I could offer any advice to others creating their own music videos, it would be to make sure you get multiple takes so that you have options when editing. This can save you in the event that one doesn’t match up or is too long or too short.
