AICE Media Studies Introduction

Hi, my name is Sophia Pollock, and this is a little bit about me. I am the daughter of Jake and Melissa Pollock and I have 3 sisters. I am the third oldest which makes me a middle child. My dad grew up in a Jewish household, and my mom converted to Judaism when they got married. I myself, have been raised Jewish and have been bat mitzvahed. I have 6 dogs whom I love equally. I have always grown up around big dogs and can’t imagine my life without animals. I am 16 years old, and a junior at Fort Lauderdale High School. I have always been an honor roll student and plan to continue this streak until my very last day of school. My goals for after high school are to attend a good college, and to earn a degree in something I love. I have many academic interests, like reading and writing and hope to pursue a future that includes both. During my free time I like to go to the beach, go on the boat, listen to music, and watch movies, or hangout with my friends, family, and dogs. My favorite ice cream flavor is strawberry, and I love pineapple on pizza! All of my extended family lives in Florida so I tend to see them a lot. I am a very family-oriented person and I enjoy spending quality time with those I love. Whether it's card games or boat days we always have a good time. I also enjoy my time alone, doing activities such as listening to music, drawing, and watching movies. I have always had a love for art, as it gives me a canvas to express myself without actually having to use words, and it makes me feel like I can show my most authentic self. Music is another interest of mine as well, during my first year of high school I signed up for a guitar class and art class. Both of which I thrived in as I enjoyed learning and perfecting my craft. I have always taken a liking to movies and wondered what goes on behind the scenes. I hope to learn a lot about movie production throughout this year and what it takes to be part of the media world. As well as put forth my skills in art and music to help create great media presentations.

Editing Blog: Editing The Music Video

 Today Allison and I edited together the music video! This was the final step to our music video process and marked an end to all of the work we had done. We used the app Imovie to put all of the scenes together, we did this in class and used Allison’s phone. We had previously recorded all of the clips on Allison’s phone so this was the most convenient option. I began adding the scenes to the app to have an outline of our video. Allison helped me crop the clips so that they would line up with the music perfectly. It was challenging making all the clips match up with the music perfectly and I did have some frustrations along the way. For some scenes I had trouble matching the lip syncing, but after a few tries I was able to make it look flawless! Creating a split screen for the phone call scene seemed impossible, but with some research and the help of my group mates I was able to create a split screen! Introducing My Group Mates!

 My group is very similar to the group I had for my previous music video, although there are some changes. We decided to add a new member to the group from a different class period, her name is Jade. My group now consists of me my good friend Allison, Darrow, and Jade. Allison and I have been friends since middle school and have worked together on many projects and assignments. On our last project Allison was very helpful and took on a lot of the responsibility she picked upon Darrow a few times and allowed us to film at her house. Without her we who knows what we would've done. Allison also helped me a lot when it came to filming, she gave me many ideas without forcing them upon me. We are able to work well together because we have a good relationship. Darrow is another friend that I have known since middle school. Lets Get Filming!

 Today we got lots of filming done! Yesterday was not as accomplished as we spent a lot of time trying to figure out the right place to film. But today we were able to all meet at one place at the same time ready to film. All of the actors quickly got dressed and I went to set up props again. Darrow's parents were not home this day so I had to set up the props by my lonesome without his Moms help. Luckily everything still looked perfect! Once everyone was dressed we had to continue with the scenes. I had the storyboard out and placed the actors where they needed to be. With the help of my friend Eva I would position the actors and she would look through the camera telling me left, right, forward, back, to get the perfect shot.
