Filming Blog: Senior Patio
On Monday, October 4th, I began filming again with my group. On our first day of filming we had finished 3 scenes, but when we came back to school on Monday to finish we hit a bump in the road. We forgot to wear the same clothes as the last day we filmed! As the director I should have informed my actors to bring the same or similar clothes to the ones they wore in the scenes we had already shot. My group and I ended up having to reshoot our whole entire commercial from the very start. This was a learning experience and we hope those hoping to make commercials will be sure to avoid this mistake. Everything worked out for the best, because I was able to perfect the angles after shooting the second time around. I believe that my directing skills were better on our second day of filming compared to the first. Thankfully my group and I did remember to bring our props, the Jan-sport backpacks. I began shooting by setting up the Jan-sport backpack in a perfect center position for the shot. I also had to set up miscellaneous pens and notebooks for the 2nd scene, where the actor is frustrated trying to put their belongings into their backpack. It was important to me that the props looked real, because I want to create an authentic commercial. I re-filmed the initial 3 scenes similarly to the ones the day before, only slightly tweaking the angles. I also filmed 3 additional scenes to finish out the commercial. As the director I told all of the actors when to start and when to stop, I used clue words such as action and cut to let them know. Most of our scenes were set in busy areas, so as the director I had to be sure to shoot around any passerbys so that they would not distract from the commercial. I am proud of the work I have completed filming today, and have risen to my prior expectations that I discussed in my last filming blog. Which were, perfecting my angles. Overall I am very pleased that my group and I were able to finish filming all of our scenes, and I am excited to begin editing in the next class. I can't wait to see how our commercial turns out!
