Genre Research: Romance


 


    These are the conventions for romance

        Camera Movements


Panning: This is used to show the characters and their surroundings especially in rising action or the climax when tension is high especially in a romance movie

Tracking: This is used to add tension between 2 people 


        Lighting

Low-Key Lighting is used to build tension between characters which is a needed trade in romance where there is a love between two characters. 


Camera Angles


High Shot Angles are used to demonstrate the emotions between the 2 people and when one has a higher power over another. 

Low Shot Angles are used to demonstrate the power a character has have in the situation.


         Elements of Romance

External Conflict that the two lovers experience 

Internal Conflict that only the audience sees

Tension, Overcoming , and Love in many Scenes 


          Sounds

Non-Diegetic: This is used to increase the effect of the emotion/dialogue of characters.

Diegetic: Usually arguing with other characters  which is a natural convention in romance.

Sound Motif: This allows for the tense mood of one scene to carry over without losing its atmosphere.

    The  elements I like are sound that help amplify the visual aspects. The visual aspects are nice and help provide an initial feeling but the sounds used, subconsciously amplifies the already present feeling the audience gets from the choices and conventions made by the director. I don't like the usage of
